You are seriously engaged with critical race theory and examining the dynamics of power and oppression.

    Ample Support

  • The Three Queens Teacher Training enriches personal practice and expands learning that isn't possible in drop-in yoga classes. While a significant aspect of the program is dedicated to teaching skills, this ultimately deepens one's yoga experience. - A measure of understanding anything is your ability to teach it.

  • We're so happy that you are inspired and want to learn more! We suggest practicing for a year before applying to yoga school. If you're newer to yoga and have been practicing consistently for at least 6 months (1 time or more per week), then you are welcome to apply and we can help assess if this is a good time to start the program or if you would be better served by waiting until next year.Item description

  • Not compared to many of the trainings out there. We value slowing down and practicing mindful movement with lots of adaptations and use of props. With that said, this immersive program will require you to practice a lot and it will be physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging. By the nature of the program you will learn what a sustainable daily practice looks like for you and learn from your fellow trainees about how that might look differently for others. If you have specific access requests or needs, please reach out!

  • The Three Queens Yoga space has limitations around ADA accessibility. We have an ADA bathroom, and with assistance, we are wheelchair accessible on the first floor. We do not have a ramp, and our primary practice room is on the second floor. Accessing the second floor also requires 24 steps. At this time, 90% of our program meets in the studio.

The Teacher Training program can meet many needs depending on the person, and we encourage applications from everyone.

  • Much of our teaching team identifies with one or more of these identities and we each have the personal experience of asking this question to ourselves and the programs we’ve been a part. It is important to us to shape the program content and culture in a way that acknowledges power dynamics.

That said, we know that in any group dynamic, harm will likely occur. We will pay special attention to harm and repair within our group and will also provide optional affinity space for students from BIPOC communities, held by teachers who hold these identities.

  • Often yoga philosophy is appropriated and turned into popular catchphrases, particularly on social media. This messaging ignores and colludes with systemic oppression and is called spiritual bypassing. Spiritual bypassing uses spirituality to evade engaging with real-world problems and power dynamics. Spiritual bypassing is also used to escape our struggles, needs, and boundaries.

At its very essence, yoga is about liberation as an invitation and a resource to engage with the personal and collective. At Three Queens, we work to dismantle systems of supremacy in our relationship with yoga.

When building this FAQ list, we drew inspiration from our colleagues at Bhakti Yoga Movement Center, whose collective liberation approach to yoga is the future we seek in yoga community.
