Trying everything in your power to eat well but still—despite all your efforts—not feeling well? Well, before you give up altogether, we’re here to tell you: you are not alone when it comes trying everything under the sun to feel good in your body and, well, not feeling good at all. That’s where Around the Table, our new pop-up dinner-and-conversation series, comes in. Each installment, led by nutritionist Cristina Hoyt Alvarez and health coach Adjua Fisher, is aimed at arming you with the knowledge to actually fuel to feel good—all over a delicious dinner, of course.
For Around the Table, Mariel Freeman of Three Queens Yoga, nutritionist Cristina Hoyt Alvarez of Nourish and health coach Adjua Fisher of Reap Wellness, have teamed up to create a space where we can continually come together for BS-free, candid and intimate conversations surrounding all things wellness and nutrition—all over bangin’ healthy eats and BYO bubbly.
For the first installment of the series, held at Shot Tower Coffee, our conversation will focus on tackling the common nutrition myths and misconceptions that many fall prey to when trying to up their health game, which could be backfiring on you and stalling your progress on the road to feeling your best. (Hellooo, feelings of sluggishness and hanger despite doing everything you’ve been told to feel the opposite.) The conversation will be held over a dinner of veggie tacos—think: mushrooms al pastor and more drool-worthy takes on plant-based ingredients—whipped up by Reap Wellness’s Zachary Rice and served family-style with all the fixings you could possibly want: citrus-y guacamole, green rice with cilantro-kale salsa, paprika black beans, plenty of herbs, pickled onions, homemade salsas, hot sauces and more so that you can fill your tortilla a new way each time. (Everything on the table will be plant-based, gluten-free and celiac-friendly).
As we chow down on tacos, expect to get a breakdown of the carb, fat, protein and calorie myths that could be preventing you from reaching your wellness goals—and, as if that’s not frustrating enough, turning you into a low-energy, grumpy monster in the process. And don’t be shy: Come with all your questions! Cristina and Adjua will happily answer them so that you walk out of the dinner with a newfound arsenal of nutrition information and are able to move forward with a holistic approach to filling your plate that actually makes you feel good (hooray!).
